Prayercast

Answer to Prayer

The government’s changing attitude and approach toward the Church, particularly the unregistered Church. While substantial opposition and persecution remain, the Chinese government now, for the first time, recognizes the size of the unregistered Church as being at least 50 million and is making overtures toward its leaders. The Church is of such size and influence that it can no longer be ignored or denied; furthermore, the state is recognizing faith-based organizations’ potential for addressing social ills.

Challenge for Prayer

The Manchu conquered and ruled China from 1644 to 1911, but lost their culture in the process. They are the second-largest minority group in China. Of the 13.3 million Manchu, the majority live in the three provinces of former Manchuria but are also scattered across China. Most are largely assimilated into Chinese society, but a few retain their culture, their shamanist religion and their language. Praise God for a significant response to the gospel recently, both in Manchu congregations and those integrated into Han-majority churches.

Challenge for Prayer

There is a significant turning to Christianity in the north, along the Yellow River where many Han immigrants live. Christian ministry to the poor has yielded great response among farmers and working-class people. Pray for the formation of churches where the many new believers can be led in discipleship and study of the Bible.
