Sustained growth of evangelicals. Newer charismatic groups have grown in particular. Many churches were begun by foreigners, notably Africans, but increasingly a fruit of the Ukrainian soil in which they were planted. One recent successful house church movement has seen great growth both in Ukraine and neighbouring countries by focusing on relational outreach, lay leadership and reproducing churches.
The Orange Revolution displayed both the incredible potential and the predictable humanity of Ukraine. After non-violent mass demonstrations forced new elections and greater freedoms, many felt Ukraine was on the road to widespread transformation. Sadly, much remains unchanged. Opposing political leaders undermined one another, and the nation remains intrinsically divided between East and West. Pray for this fault line to be repaired by genuine healing and reconciliation.
